Description
Designed in 1947 by architect Gregory Ain with 2022 restoration by architect Michael Folonis, FAIA. The 10-unit ACH helped define Los Angeles as the center of the modernist movement in American domestic architecture as the project adapted the best features of a hillside commune, garden apartment and suburban house. The whole was rendered in International Style architecture with flexible interiors. The restoration includes new plumbing and electrical, custom windows and doors, kitchen with stainless appliances, custom cabinetry, flooring, HVAC system, laundry room and tankless water heater. Beyond Ain's imaginative site planning, these "flexible houses" employ sliding partition walls such that this desirable corner unit with open living, dining and kitchen area, can be configured as a one, two or three bedroom residence with 1 bath and large private garden deck. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the ACH is a magnet for architecture buffs, but more importantly, it retains its modern appeal.
